Dog car guards review. I recently got my first car, and having a very exuberant Staffy, I decided that she needed to either be harnessed or in a crate. The last thing that any new driver needs is a 20lb pooch jumping all over you whilst you are trying to concentrate on the road.
My car is a Seat Leon, so I thought that a dog car guard would be a great option. I want to share my finding with you here, with my top 5 choices and why I have chosen them. My main concern when buying the dog guards for cars was whether the dog guard would fit well in the car, and whether the quality of the product would reassure me that it would last for as long as I needed it (and not rattle annoyingly).
I was overall a little disappointed in the dog car guards available in the UK. Alot of them just didn’t have the build quality that I was looking for, and were fiddly to install as the parts seemed quite flimsy. I was looking for a car guard that was preferably a one piece item that would slot in easily, and that would also be easy to remove.
Thankfully I found a car guard by a company called RoofBox that is made to fit on the back of the rear seats, rather than the usual boot to roof guard that prevents you from using the parcel shelf and boot blind if you have one.

The WalkyGuard dog guard for cars is a universal dog guard (not dependent on the size of the car). It is a one peice welded guard so you will not hear any rattles. It has an adjustable width and height, so it will fit almost any car.
Here is one of lots of great reviews that I found on this car guard for dogs:
“Does what it says on the box. Have 2 GSD pups and a very necessary piece of kit. Am very impressed with ease of fixing takes minutes to install and remove.”

On the other hand, if you want to find a car guard that is specific for your car type, I found a range of Saunders Dog Guards that are made from all types of cars, from Citroen’s to BMW’s.

In the US, as always, there is a larger range of dog guards to choose from, and some brilliant ones at that. With Americans often using larger cars, it was important to choose car guards that were going to either fit all manner of cars, from saloons to SUV’s.
The dog car seat team tried and tested over 10 car guards, and here are our winning top 3 choices available in the US & Canada:

The Travall Range is superb quality, and if you have invested alot in your car, then this range with be perfect for you. The guards are chrome rather than black, and have thinner bars than most, so will not look like an eye sore in your car. If you have more than one dog, you can even buy a guard with a divider if your dogs like to bark and wind each other up!
If you want to get a universal dog guard that will fit in any car, then the Walky Guard is the best way to stop your dogs from jumping from the back seat to the front. Here is one of lots of great review that we found on the Walky Guard:
“I searched all over and this is by far the best dog barrier for the money. It is very secure in our Passat Wagon, easy to install and remove, looks good, and is easy to see through with the rear view mirror. I highly recommend the Walky Guard Car Barrier. ”
James,Toronto
The only advice that I can give if you want to buy a dog guard is don’t compromise on quality. It is worth spending the extra bucks to get a product that will last you a lifetime.
